*invades thread* Oh, and on the poll...Maria/hot babes could very well be canon. We never knew the full story of what went on in Xing...  I like some canon pairings, and a few I love. I don't really *hate* any of them. (yes, I understand that some people do dislike pairings for legitimate reasons) But honestly, I don't like the attitude in a lot of parts of this fandom, that any noncanon pairing=doing it so wrong you can see it in space. If you ask me, fanworks are noncanon even if they're canon pairings because the situations are almost always imagined or just retold by someone but whatever. I ship a lot of things that aren't canon. Not everything, per se, but enough to make the fandom for me one big love triangle. Some things I even ship because I think the personalities would go interestingly together even if it would be loveless and dysfunctional. so, anyone like Winry/Rose? How about Lust/Sloth? (and my ot3 alternates between Ed/Alfons/Noah and Olivier/Miles/Scar. Lol.) |

^ THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTITUDE TOWARDS NONCANON. <3 It's lovely and so unlike a lot of canon fans I've seen. You are awesome! Seriously, I've gotten so much shit lately over my pairings. My friend Brandon made me cry the other night (I'm on the rag) because he found out I write RoyEd, and he's a diehard FMA fan. He said I'm raping the fandom and shitting it out and that he respects me because I'm Tara, but can't respect me for being into that, apparently.
When I explained to him that I'm not a rabid fanbrat, and that I like it because there are absolutely no legitimate gay pairings in mainstream manga, and that it's actual quite deep when you do it right, he kind of backed off. I think he felt guilty. XD He actually apologized and told me he was an asshole.
Still. ;_;
Anyway, back on topic. I like Winry/Rose, and yes, Lust/Sloth is awesome though I've never actually seen it. It seemed plausible in Anime1, didn't it? XD In a bitchy let's-fuck-even-though-Wrath-is-in-the-room way? XD

XD I can totally see that, actually. In my head Lust likes getting it on with both men and women, but women slightly more since they are generally better with what women like.  That was a pretty asshole thing for him to say, but at least he apologized.  *hugs* |

taranova- hehe, thanks! and yeah... I don't consider myself really a canon fan because of that attitude. It's like...this is fanfiction. If something doesn't interest you or reminds you of something bad that happened to you, it's ok if you don't like it. But if you think something is terrible simply because it didn't happen in the series (I'm not saying I don't like it when people only like canon pairings, I'm saying I don't like when people act as if everyone is only allowed to like canon), you've lost me especially if you are a fan of other non canon things like AUs. And it bothers me too when people are like "don't write same sex pairings, *insert chaarcter* is straight!" when they weren't ever revealed to be any sexuality. (this also goes for when a character isn't even in any relationships, and people still say it. Almost every fandom I've been in.)
And that wasn't nice of him at all, that was very rude of him! People make too many assumptions. (and yea, you're right...there aren't many gay pairings in mainstream at all, let alone ones that are well done and not "hey look gay relationships this makes us automatically progressive even if we're not".
And I thought Lust/Sloth was plausible because I thought they had a lot of interesting similarities and could understand each other even if they could never really live the way the other did.

It's different if they like slash and just wanted to write a slash pair as a het couple just because, but if they have some sorta stupid moral opposition to slash but they'll ship the same pairs once straightified, THAT'S GROSS > |

I love genderbending, not only are there pretty fanarts but there are so many things you can do in fan fiction (I think many facets of the story could be different if the genders were changed) the that it confuses me why most genderbending fics are just "genderswitching to keep it from being icky and gay" as you guys put it.

FEELINGSMUNCULUS: It just BOTHERS me. Besides which--I don't know if you've noticed--but when people create Fem!Ed, often times they butcher his character and just create a Mary-Sue character with his superficial qualities. The personality is different and he tends to act like the typical Sue archetype. Or should I say she?
acedia: Ed makes a very pretty girl, not gonna lie. XD Whenever I watch it in Japanese, family and friends who don't know what the fuck FMA is always think he's a chick. And I agree. Personally, I think FMA would have been interesting in different ways if any of the characters switched genders. What if Winry had been a boy, for example? And Ed had been a girl? It would have been badass, just in varying dimensions.

There's been all this shipwar bullshit showing up on my tumblr dash recently, so in response I'm trying to make a RoyEd and Elricest appreciation post, cos those are the pairings always getting bashed. Do you guys have any recommendations? I'm looking for either well-known RoyEd and Elricest fanworks, or fans who ship RoyEd or Elricest who have done significant things for the fandom aside from their pairs (like, maybe they started an influential community, or created a fanon that everyone uses, a fanart used in every graphic everywhere, etc.)
HELP ME OUT HERE.

OH MY GOD, THOSE ASSHOLES. Well--we could maybe post images (some great artists that come to mind are caps from doujin artists like IDEA and maybe Rueme for RoyEd, cuz let's face it, her RoyEd is beautiful). Links to awesome fanfic, maybe? I have tons of favorites on my fanfiction account, so you should look there. Unfortunately I don't have many ideas about elricest because it's not really my OTP, but I know there's tons of great fic/art out there for it. Hmm. Maybe we could start asking people for defense essays about these pairings? Kind of like how we did in the thread Dearheart started, where we explained why we loved our OTPs? Obviously bashing other ships wouldn't be allowed, but it might help people understand why we ship this stuff in the first place. :/ Speaking of Tumblr, I'm thinking of starting an Ask-RoyEd tumblr, though I suck at art, so anyone willing to help me out with this would be appreciated. :3 All of the Ask-Tumblrs (as far as FMA is concerned) are ridiculously anti-slash, anti-non-canon, so it's kind of something I've been wanting to do for a while.  If you need more specific help, Crow, let me know.
