Started as a shameless way to get some help with my fanfiction.
I adore the characters of FMA like you don't even know. o3o They're all very complex and real... however, if you're writing fanfiction and are incredibly picky about characterization, this makes writing them a bit of a brain-bender. xD;
I was originally going to post what I'd learned about the characters from this one fic project of mine... then I decided to reread the manga and turn it into one big character essay. o3o So until I get finished, post your obversation! I will be taking notes for my fic. *is shot*

That's a very broad question. XD What characters, in particular, do you want to know about? XD

^I guess just exactly how the main characters (Ed, Al, Winry, Roy and Riza in particular) would react if they were up and dumped into a world (like, y'know... a Digital World >w> that worked nothing like the one they were familiar with... I just love how Arakawa writes these characters, and I want to preserve that complex characterization, even in a goofy situation such as a Digimon crossover, then I wind up overthinking things and it comes out too serious and I can't progress because I get hung up on things. xD; (Maybe I should've titled this thread "Neo's Fanfic Rants" x3;)

Exactly what genre are you writing? xD Pure humor, or a serious story with the occasional lighthearted moment (like the manga is?)
Because I think, in a goofy situation where you're writing mostly humor, you have to kind of distill the characters. As much as you don't want to, humor and complexity don't always mix. When they do it's usually in a more serious setting (like Good Omens.) If it's humor mixed with seriousness like the manga, it's doable, but if it's going to be mostly humor I think you need to take a couple main points for each character, exaggerate or focus on those and leave the rest.
Feel free to take anything I say with lots of salt...this stuff is pretty subjective. ^^;

So yeah it's kinda like the manga. o3o
