Because the first round at help_japan went so well, there will not be a second round, and I think there was only one lightning round at the beginning of this month...

Anyway, the confirmed donation totals for the first round, not counting the lightning round: $101,733.91 USD

here is the donation breakdown...most of the donations were under $100. It's absolutely amazing, how much money was raised in just one month.

HELP THE SOUTH! They uh, really need the help right now. At the end of last month, severe tornadoes passed through six states leaving complete destruction in their wake, and now, along the Mississippi, severe flooding is expected.

If you have the time/cash, participate in this auction, or donate on your own to an appropriate charity!

here's the news: on Friday March 11th, a magnitude 8.9 earthquake and subsequent massive tsunamis struck Japan. This is the fifth-largest earthquake on record.

Help_Japan is an LJ comm for a fandom auction to, of course, help Japan. If you have an LJ, and if you have the money/time/parental approval/whatever, please join and participate in the auction! I don't have the time or self-esteem to sell stuff this time around, but I will be bidding.

Every little bit helps! Even if you can't do much, do something! Keep Japan and the other affected areas in your thoughts and/or prayers. I still need to learn the extent of damage in the town where I work - the tsunami hit around seven this morning, with a max wave height of 2-4 feet, which doesn't sound like much but consider that tsunamis travel faster than jet planes. Coastal residents were told to evacuate, but people living on the bay should be fine; I doubt there was major damage and I'm sure everyone is all right, but tell that to me when I get a phone call at three thirty in the morning telling me that work is canceled due to TSUNAMI xD

In addition, would you guys be interested in doing something on a much much much smaller scale here? I'm too shy to sell stuff on LJ but I could try to sell stuff here, in an alternate reality where I have free time...

Post on this thread to give me your answers, and spread the news to all your fandom friends! Even if you can't participate in the auction, maybe they can, so pimp out that community link like it's going out of style!

Man oh man. I really don't have much in the way of talent for making auction-able items, but I'll try to see if I can bid.

Definitely keeping everyone affected in my thoughts. (I'm glad to hear that YOU'RE okay!) I once had to do a ton of research into earthquake victims for a fic to get the emotional trauma right...and if it bummed me out then, knowing that people are going through that right now just makes me feel a mix of sadness and guilt.

Unfortunately we're such a small group...if we did set something up though, I would participate in making things and auctioning here, despite my lack of super-good offerings.

(It seriously warms my heart to imagine how much this auction will help. Guys, really, go have a scroll-through even if you can't afford anything. Just the sight of how many funds this will raise for the people affected will make you smile.)

Because my teeth suck I unfortunately cannot afford to bid in the South auction, but I just thought in case anybody else wanted some encouragement to bid, I would share one of the pieces that I won from the Japan auction.

I just busted my tail feathers paying for Fullmetal-the-car's new transmission (ohgod don't even ask how much) so I'm flat broke, and it's the end of the school year so I'm busy as all hell. So I can't do much for this either <_<

I actually won a third, too, but the person vanished from the internet and never responded, which makes me a sad Puzzle. I thought about using that money for the South auction, but had to face that I needed the cash more than I needed fanart. OTL)
