See how annoying this pop-up splash page I've added to the site is? Blocking every single page, keeping you from enjoying the FMA and clubhouse goodness? Sure, you can click 'close' and it'll go away, but still, what a pain.
If SOPA is passed, it'll be an even bigger pain, because you won't just be able to click 'close' and make it go away. There is a chance that such a bill could lead to grievous misuse, including taking down some of the websites we love and hold dear, including this one. If ProBoards was to go down, so would we. And if someplace like YouTube or Tumblr could go down, ProBoards stands a chance too.
Take a look at this video:
PROTECT IP Act Breaks The Internet
If you live in the US, use some of the links provided in the splash page to write to your congresspeople. If you live outside the US, spread the word and make your support for us known. I've met my best friends, people I would do anything for, through the internet, often through the kind of sites this bill would want to shut down. The internet community is made up of amazing people, budding artists and writers and singers, entrepreneurs and inventors. We've invented a type of communication and media that the world has never seen before, via the freedoms of the internet. To lose a culture like that would be terrible.
Spread the word. Get involved. We as a society have made history before and changed things for good. Let's do it again and block this thing.
And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day, I said fifty people a day walking in, putting pop-ups on their websites and walking out. Friends, they might think it's a movement. And that's what it was. The Internet anti-censorship movement.
You get karma if you get that reference. x3
