(You guys know I'm gonna spam the hell out of this once I get my old computer back. For now, I'll just start with a few favorites...)
-The obligatory Mirrorworld rec. I harp on about this one all the time, and with good reason. This HeiEd epic has replaced movie canon in my mind because it is so much better. It inspired and cemented my love of the pairing because of the way they're written - realistically and with real Issues complicating the romance, and they manage to work as a couple despite all the imperfections. Their relationship matures and grows throughout the story and it's just wonderful.
It's a WIP but there's only a few more chapters to go - things are intense right now. I've been following the story for three years. I started reading this when it was 9 chapters and 20,000 words long. It's almost 300,000 words now, with 41 chapters. DEDICATION, I HAVE IT.
The characterization and character development in MW are spot-on, AND the writing is excellent, AND the plot is amazing, and grrrx just read it. It has kickass alchemy! Evil cliffhangers! Redneck Roy! Elaborate political games! Hacking the universe 101! Ed being really awkward as he attempts to pray! Poorly named horses! Alfons getting confused by a zipper! Fluff! Angst! Drama! Action! This is sounding more and more like an infomercial JUST READ IT OKAY.
-Magnet, another HeiEd and one of the first fics I read for the pairing. PUZZLE YOU STILL NEED TO READ THIS YOU SAID YOU WOULD FOREVER AGO :B Anyway. Complete at about 20k words, painfully bittersweet and one of the most beautiful pieces of fiction I've ever read. It illustrates in the most heartwrenching prose everything I love about this pairing. This is one of those pieces that has to be read all in one sitting - the writing has a way of getting under your skin, the descriptions and emotions are so strong and real that they're almost tangible.
"He so belonged to Edward that it was painful to think about, because sometime soon, he knew, one way or another, they would be parted. This wasn't for forever, because it wasn't really proper, it wasn't meant to be, because it wasn't right, because he was sick and Edward was crazy, because the world could come to an end at any moment."
-Nonsensical Circles, still another HeiEd (sensing a pattern yet?), this one complete at about 17k words. Plot-driven - Alfons encounters a certain Great Serpent and accidentally breaks the Universe. This was just posted the other day and my heart EXPLODED to find new HeiEd plotfic, and I was not disappointed.
