I had no bloody clue what was going on at first. xD; I'm the opposite, I watched the first anime for about the first 25 episodes than I picked up a few of the mangas from the local library. And I was massively confused. And for awhile I thought maybe it was mistranslated or something until I found FMA on Wikipedia and got a ful explination.

^ I first got into the fandom in 2007, and I was confused THEN. I was into the first anime and I got really confused and bitter when people online talked about the manga, because I was too lazy to read it and had no idea what was going on. XD I was like, "Who the fuck is Father?" LMAO.

I jumped into the fandom the second I finished the first anime, so I was spoiled out the ears for the manga and as such was not confused by the differences, just pissed at myself for ruining so much <_< This is why I hate spoilers, kiddies.
And it's also why I thought Ed was manga!Pride for a little more than a half a year, and was then MASSIVELY CONFUSED when I got to the last of the chapter updates and little Selim was still Pride...friggin' BBI.

XDD
I forgive BBI. It made everyone look as if they belonged in a shoujo manga. XD

BBI...that's the weird Chinese fangame where Ed is Pride and loves Roy or something, right? *No offense to Roy/Ed shippers* As for myself, I first started watching the old anime, and I really liked parts of it. (To be honest, Ed really annoyed me, and I was sad that Winry wasn't in it more). In fact, the very first episode I caught on adult swim was that one with Ed in the hospital, and Winry was talking to Hughes, and for a little while I was very sad because I thought Winry and Ed were brother and sister from the way she was talking about him. Then, Lo and behold, the almighty google! I looked up FMA, discovered that Winry was in the manga more (and that there were definite hints of her and Ed hooking up) so I checked it out, and was immediately hooked. Now, in all honesty, the old anime makes me cringe.

^ In that same respect, Brotherhood sometimes makes me cringe. XD I can't stand Winry and Ed together. Winry and Alphonse? YES. They're compatible. They are Yin and Yang. Winry and Ed? Too incestuous. They're at the same time nothing like each other and everything like each other. I don't know. <3 No biggie.

lololol as you know, I love both the anime and the manga BECAUSE they're so different <3
Speaking of ships, think the new movie is gonna bother? EdWin hints? BONES going back to their old standby of Roy/Ed and Elricest subtext?
And BBI has more Elricest implications than anything else, really, but there are some Roy/Ed hints...it's all subtext, though, nothing explicitly stated. But yes, Pride!Ed is one of the endings.

Oh, God. Don't get my hopes up Crow. The last subtext I think I'm ever gonna get is from Shamballa. XD Then again, the video games had some subtext too. I don't think Arakawa would let anything like that in though. :/ Sad day for non-canon shippers everywhere.

^ Dude, some of the video games had TEXT. "If only security were as tight as your ass, Colonel!" ring a bell?
I SORRY. But think of it this way, you have a better chance of receiving OTP subtext in the next movie than I do, unless they decide to go the way of Zombie!Heiderich XDDDD

I DO REMEMBER THAT. XD Auuugh, that was amazing. And how he handed that ring he and Al found to Mustang, and Roy was like, "I'm sorry, Fullmetal, I just can't accept a gift like this from another man" and Ed started blushing. XD

@ taranova Haha, funny thing is, I think Winry and Al show much more of a brother/sister relationship then Ed/Winry. They've always had a similar dynamic that Ed and Al have with each other. That, and I'm a canon person at heart, so I look at things the way they are, and that's what it is. Meaning like...how in the manga Al shows zero interest in her romantically. Tis okay though, when written well in fanfictions, I don't mind Al/Winry. There are definitely worse things!

My thoughts exactly. I actually have this plot bunny in my head where Ed holds off on starting a relationship with Winry because he thinks Al's in love with her and he doesn't want to take anything more away from him, and he gets all angsty and guilty and "he deserves her more than I do" and stuff. And then Al figures out what's going on and scolds him for being stupid, and they have a nice, long, emotional, brotherly chat, and Al unmasks his inner EdWin shipper, and it's beautiful... :'D (Yet another reason why I ship it. 'Cause Al does, too. And Al is awesome; therefore anything he ships is awesome too. MY LOGIC IS INFALLIBLE.) For the life of me though, I don't understand the "EdWin feels incestuous" argument at all. I respect it and it doesn't upset me or anything, but nonetheless, it puzzles me to no end. (For one thing, they aren't even remotely related. For another, immature banter isn't limited to brother/sister relationships. And for another, brothers don't usually blush or get all awkward around their sisters, do they...? My brain is getting all tied in knots now...) No offense meant to you at all, taranova! Just thinking out loud, here. xD Ignore me. Ship away. I should shut up now...or get back on-topic at least... EdWin hints in the movie would make me a very happy fangirl, but I'm not hoping for too much of it. Or too much of anything, honestly. The teaser hasn't thrilled me at all; it looks really weird...and stupid...and weird... >.> I know it was only thirty seconds and I'm trying hard not to judge it until I see it, but nonetheless...I feel pretty meh about it right now. =/ I am warming up to the art style, though. It's like a mix of anime1 and Brotherhood! I approve! =D

*de-lurks* BBI happened before it was realized Hohenheim isn't Father, right? And as for Ed/Win being incestuous, when was falling in love with your childhood friend incestuous? And how do we know the people presenting this argument aren't closet Elricest shippers? xD I didn't really get any Elricest or Roy/Ed subtext from the first anime, though that may be because I'm really oblivious to everything that isn't blatantly stated. But there was definitely sexual tension between Alfons and Ed in CoS. Forsure. Anyways, my thoughts on the new movie: what is this i don't even The art looks more like the first-anime style, though more cartoony, and...kind of like Hayao Miyazaki? Just my opinion. I have a feeling this is just going to be like a filler episode from the old series, except longer. I'm disappointed - I was hoping it would take place after the manga, hopefully with the Xingese crew. They better have a good explanation for this. Also, what's with the title? Sorry for being so negative, guys. I just don't see how this is going to be good in any way.
